  • Overview

     

    Working within the Information Technology, Professional Tennis division of the USTA, a Graduate Intern will work on a project (or projects) that will provide a significant opportunity for experiential learning and and/or research. Through this project, the intern will become fully immersed in USTA Operations and will have access to opportunities for professional engagement and mentoring by USTA staff in preparation for the 2018 US Open. Position is located at the National Tennis Center in Queens, NY.  Tableau experience required.

    Responsibilities

    The Internship, presented in collaboration with the Consortium for Graduate Study in Management, is structured to provide an integrative learning experience that amplifies and complements the intern’s coursework. The projects and research that the intern will be exposed to include:



    US Open Player Data Analysis Project

    Working with a rich data base of statistics captured for every point played at the US Open, and supplemental player logistics data, the scope of this project includes

    • Analyzing the data to identify new opportunities to provide insights to match play for US Open constituencies including fans, broadcasters, print media, and sponsors.  

    • Identifying opportunities to leverage the data to enhance and streamline US Open operations.

    • Testing of applications that utilize data to validate results.

    • Building automated solutions to help in the cleanup and retrieval of data

    • Researching methodologies used in other sports and applying them to our data

     

     

     

    Qualifications

    Applicants must have significant statistics and data analysis skills and experience.  A sophisticated knowledge of competitive tennis is essential. Background with data visualization tools (we use Tableau), scripting languages (we use Python), and databases (we use Microsoft SQL Server) is preferred.

     

    • The internship runs from June 18th through August 10th.

    • The pay is $25/hour based on a 32 hours workweek.

    • Intern will have the opportunity for exposure to senior leadership across the organization

    • No housing provided - intern will have to secure his/her own housing

    Relatives of the USTA National Staff will not be considered.
